Colony Ridge, advertising through Terrenos Houston, attracts numerous immigrants and buyers with persistent deceptive marketing. They use countless videos and various aliases which all contribute to promote this seemingly idyllic piece of Texas.
Today, companies like Colony Ridge benefit from a perfect timing in history, leveraging the global reach of social media and Google through hashtags and advertisements. In fact, Colony Ridge manages official Facebook pages directly from Colombia, as verified on the Facebook Transparency page.
Social media algorithms effectively extend reach to viewers in the locations where accounts are created and managed, providing a cost-effective means to advertise internationally without needing commercials outside the United States.
Spokesmodel for Colony Ridge, Laura Camila Castro, promotes through Terrenos Houston ads, that water, light, and sewage are included. However, on October 31, 2023, Colony Ridge’s CEO, John Harris, revealed at the Texas Senate session that buyers need $10,000 to $15,000 for utilities connections and more, contradicting the simplified portrayal in this company’s advertisements of what it means to live in Colony Ridge.
The experience of purchasing land with Colony Ridge turns out to be much more challenging than buyers initially perceive.
Amid promises of significant growth, business opportunities, expansion, and overall safety for everyone, Colony Ridge lacks essential infrastructure. Sales representatives employ devious tactics, assuring buyers that the area is currently undergoing development and emphasizing the urgency to buy now to capitalize on the community’s rapid growth, drawing parallels to the expansion of places like Katy, Texas, and Highway 99.
The idea of investing in something for themselves and their family’s future, a legacy for their kids, is a compelling aspect that captures the attention of many buyers.
While Terrenos Houston promotes the catchphrase “Deja la renta tóxica,” encouraging people to leave their “toxic rent”, they also omit the extent of toxicity and pollution in Colony Ridge. The lands and rivers bear the burden of poor sewage, and Colony Ridge relies on untreated well water, lacking a water treatment plant in the area.
Numerous violations not only impact Liberty County but also have downstream consequences in Harris County. Dolcefino Consultants conducted a report shedding light on issues within Colony Ridge.
On October 31, 2023, Texas senators discussed several concerns regarding Colony Ridge, including property ownership issues. Notably, no public testimonies from Colony Ridge consumers were permitted, leaving their side of the story and experiences unheard. Senators predominantly sided with the developers, overshadowing the genuine voices and stories of the affected people.
On a state department level, the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending has encountered numerous cases involving unlicensed activity in Colony Ridge’s buyer loans, with instances lacking a loan officer. However, these cases have been dismissed.
Interestingly, Harris told Telemundo that they hired a licensed external loan originator from the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending to assist them.
Is this association the reason cases keep getting dismissed? The brushing-off by this department of cases related to unlicensed activity should raise significant concerns for all Texans, not just customers of Colony Ridge. Could this alliance lead to a state agency covering up for Colony Ridge? The lack of further investigation into these matters adds to the uncertainty.
Numerous media outlets and publications have defended the developers, unfairly labeling Colony Ridge issues and Liberty County’s irresponsible actions as a right-wing, racist problem.
The truth is that many residents within Colony Ridge communities have been seeking help for years, and their pleas have gone unheard. The language barrier and local slangs have contributed to the silencing of these voices.
As the public hears about Colony Ridge, many have raised the question, “How did we get here?”
We got here through political connections, engineering approvals, home builder participation, and elected officials consistently approving Colony Ridge’s operations. After encountering state departments and Texas senators dismissing the cries of those victimized by Colony Ridge, we wonder, will there ever be a resolution?

This website has been a self-funded citizen effort to spread the word about Colony Ridge and what they have done to their victims. We have been harassed because of these efforts and have also been a crucial bridge for the Federal Government to hear from victims of what the DOJ and CFPB consider a land scheme.
